Lois Kropf grew up under a quilt frame and has herself been quilting since the 1980s. Both her mother and grandmother made traditional quilts, and Kropf remembers playing under the frame during quilting bees. Today, she makes exquisitely designed and patterned applique quilts. She loves the challenge of using texture and color, carefully choosing the fabrics that will make each quilt appear like a painting. While Kropf does do some machine-piecing, she quilts by hand; all her quilts are "single-needle" quilts. She is especially fond of "stippling," a hand-quilting technique that produces a very detailed, densely stitched pattern that Kropf jokingly refers to as "crazy." Kropf’s quilts adorn her home and sewing room, as well as the homes of friends and family. A member of the Christmas Valley quilters, Kropf regularly gets together with the group to work on projects.
