Bio
Sandy Micheli grew up on a dairy farm outside of Ontario. Amid the daily chores, Micheli's father enjoyed carving whimsical sculptures, such as decorative snakes, from found pieces of wood. These days, just like her father, Micheli enjoys carving on found pieces of wood. During her four-mile walk each day, she’s always on the lookout for a carving stick. Her gift is her ability to envision shapes in wood. Staying true to the grain, coyotes, snakes, lizards, birds, and other sundry animals come to life in her hands. Micheli is also an avid gourd carver. It's not out of the ordinary for her to grow ten different varieties of gourds in her garden each season. As one might imagine, her barn is filled with gourds. Once harvested, Micheli stacks the gourds on a raised wire screen where they will sit for a year to dry out. Most mornings before dawn, with soft music as a backdrop, Sandy's creative work begins. On any given day, she may be carving a walking stick, sculpting in clay, or drawing on canvas.
