Randi Johnson (Burns) is a cowboy poet. Randi grew up on cattle ranches in Nevada, California, and Oregon. She started participating in rodeos at the age of six, and has walked the line between the buckaroo and rodeo worlds ever since. An avid reader since childhood, her interests developed into a love of storytelling through cowboy poetry. Now a first grade teacher, she is able to pass on her love of reading and the western lifestyle on to the next generation.
Bio
Randi Johnson grew up on working cattle ranches in the Great Basin region of Nevada, Northern California, and Eastern Oregon. She started competing in junior rodeos at the age of six, and has been walking the line between the buckaroo and rodeo worlds ever since. After receiving a bachelor's degree in English and writing from Eastern Oregon University, she completed her Master of Arts degree in teaching. She is currently pursuing a PhD. in Cognition and Instruction. An avid reader since childhood, Randi developed a passion for storytelling that was nurtured by the ranch and rodeo cowboys that she grew up around. She started writing cowboy poetry in middle school. She has been invited to the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, and has performed her poetry to audiences of all sizes from elementary students to the Governor of Oregon. An upholder of the oral tradition, Randi’s goal is to record and pass on the stories of the cowboys and cowgirls that have always been her heroes.
