Bio

When visitors to Wallowa County want to experience local waterways, they rely on river guides like Captain James Nash and Paul Pagano. Nash and Pagano are friends who work closely with one another through 6 Ranch Fly Fishing and Winding Waters River Expeditions, two businesses that outfit trips on local rivers like the Snake, Grande Ronde, and Wallowa. As river guides, Nash and Pagano combine gifts for outdoorsmanship and teaching. They also carry on a rich culture of storytelling and humor related to river guiding that is a hallmark of the trade. Both men got to know the places where they guide at a young age. Pagano frequented Wallowa County on hunting and fishing trips with his father, and finally settled in the area in 2008. Nash has an even more intimate knowledge of the Wallowas; his ancestors have been here since 1881. He counts himself as the fifth generation to raise cattle on the 6 Ranch, which he operates with his wife, sister, and mother. After a major conservation effort on the 2.3 miles of the Wallowa River that run through the 6 Ranch, Nash opened up the ranch for guided trout fishing. Nash and Pagano now both lead trips there through Nash’s business, 6 Ranch Fly Fishing.
