Donald Webb

Taxidermy, Leathercraft, and Folk Art

Donald Webb (Vernonia) is a taxidermist and folk artist. After retiring from a long career in the logging industry, Webb devoted time to his craft, spending his time working on any number of creative projects from cribbage boards to welded horseshoe figurines and taxidermy.

Bio

Donald Webb is a taxidermist and welder. Webb learned to hunt and fish at a young age from his father. While he learned to dress an animal from his father, Webb learned taxidermy by practicing on animals ranging from common game to cougars. In Vernonia, hunters come to him to get their deer or elk racks scored and mounted. He and his son, whom Webb taught to hunt, have an extensive collection of elk horns, many of which they have used to create cribbage boards. Webb also welds metal figurines out of horseshoes with sculpted faces and instruments made of two-part epoxy, a common material used by taxidermists. Webb enjoys sharing his crafts and has passed his skills down to his son and several Vernonia locals. While he usually gives his creations away as gifts, some are available for purchase at Made In Vernonia, a boutique downtown.
