Cathy Brown

Ranching

Bio

Cathy Brown is a rancher who is proud to carry on her family’s tradition. Brown’s parents were wheat farmers and cattle ranchers in Bakeoven, Oregon, her father’s community. Her mother came from Dufur, where her grandparents ran cattle. Brown’s early memories of working on the ranch include typical children’s tasks: feeding farm animals, driving tractors, and preparing lunches for farmhands. As she got older, Brown took on more responsibilities, such as gathering the cattle, birthing calves, and eventually, doing the most technical and difficult jobs on the ranch. Brown, who volunteers with the 4H Ranch Horse Club, has been involved with the organization since her teens.
